1) The Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS) released a Manual of Guidance on Solicitor Access in early 2011. This manual provides guidance to solicitors and police officers about a suspect’s right to a solicitor prior to questioning by the police or at any other time during questioning. It provides plain English guidance on the practical implementation of a new police station assistance scheme in Scotland, and covers issues such as the suspect’s rights, the role of the solicitor, the period of detention, and the questioning by police.
2) JUSTICE, a British-based human rights and law reform organization, released a collection of practical pointers in November 2010. It is a short guide to offer practical assistance to practitioners who advise and represent detained persons at police stations.
