ABA ROLI publishes Access to Justice Assessment Tool

After two years of development and pilot testing the American Bar Association’s Rule of Law Initiative (ROLI) published its Access to Justice Assessment Tool.

The subtitle of the tool clearly indicates the methodology’s target group: A guide to analyzing access to justice for civil society organizations.

In a nutshell, the Assessment Tool is guides CSOs how to use various data collection tools (mix between quantitative and qualitative methods) to assess and document six indicators of access to justice:

  • Legal framework
  • Legal knowledge
  • Advice and representation
  • Access to justice institutions (both formal and informal)
  • Fair procedure
  • Enforceable solution
